Bear World Magazine is proud to present Honey Party’s popup venue Bear Bar; held over two weeks for the remaining duration of Mardi Gras. Bears of all shapes and sizes, plus their many variations and admirers are invited to attend and support the venue and its varied events. Now while this will act as your guide for the events I still recommend you take the time to hop on the official Honey events page to give yourself a more details account of the events, dates, times and pricing as this is just an overview and tickets can only be pre purchased from their site.
With an opening event named The Well Hung Artspace, it certainly leaves little to the imagination, however this multi-media artwork event is set to wow everyone who attends and thankfully will left on display for the remainder of the bars duration for those unable to make the opening night , February 27th, to see. Featuring works created by Australian bear artists, including Anthony Gattari, Paul D Wade, and a mystery video artist, make sure to show your support for local talent. Shortly following the art exhibition Bear Bar gets into the swing of things with its Kick-Off Party, featuring tracks spun by London DJ Paul Coals, and a warm up set by our very own Sydney DJ Puppy two hours prior. Both events are free entry so make sure get out and enjoy what will be a great first night.
The next evening event, Cruise, will feature a more intimate and sultry feel as the lights of the bar will be subtly darkened to suit the evening’s adult theme. Melbourne’s Kam Shafaati will be doing what he does best, providing dark, edgy, and sexy tunes to get you in the mood. Cruise evening also features a Sydney native, Jaun Valesco, who’s previous sets have been featured in Honey’s Bulge; making him a perfect choice for the night. In keeping with the tone of events, Bear Bar’s following Sunday night will be a Slave Auction, with awesome prizes up for grabs and all proceeds going to The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation, Australia’s oldest HIV charity group. With the sinfully-delightful MC Barry Taylor hosting this evening’s event, you can be rest assured this will be an entertaining evening for all.
Monday evening will be more of a fun filled event with the bar hosting a pool competition for those of you who are skilled enough to sink a ball or two. There will be prizes featured for those winners who handle their wood well, so make sure you arrive before 6pm to register. If like me, you like a nice long piece of meat, Tuesday is a night to make you way over to the bar. The boys at Bear Bar will be serving free hot dogs to any and all who attend this evening – I for one will be saving my appetite for this evening. Stay later on in the evening and enjoy a couple of drinks as Perth’s DJ Roski plays for you some great music too.
With more events to come in part two next week, including Solid Gold Cocktail Party, Bear Country and Honey, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for next week’s article. See you at Bear Bar, where you’ll find the best of what Sydney’s bear scene has to offer.
