An incredible 70,000 people have donated over $3million to the Orlando shooting victims, making it the fastest-growing charity in history.
From Gay Star News
GoFundMe told GSN it is the fastest growing charity appeal they have run since launch in May 2010 and the biggest amount raised through their platform for charity.
The crowdfunding platform donated $100,000 when the amount raised passed $2million, effectively meaning their usual 5% commission on the funds is waved.
The fund is now standing at $3,035,666 (€2,704,019).
GoFundMe said: ‘Every penny raised will be distributed directly to the victims and their families. The organization is working with a team of attorneys and experts, including the National Centre for Victims of Crime in the US to ensure funds are distributed correctly.’
And organizers of the fundraiser said: ‘We are beyond moved by the support from all corners of the world and all walks of life.
‘We do not know the total costs for the victims of this horrific hate crime, therefore are working to raise as much as possible and disperse the funds as fast as possible.’
It’s on course to surpass the largest charitable donation ever made via crowdfunding, of $5,048,213 (€4,496,517) to restore a chapel in honor of Martin Luther King Junior.
