This was a week for trailers. The much talked about trailer for A Star Is Born with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper hit, as well as new trailers for the new Predator, the Ryan Gosling Neil Armstrong biopic, and the direct sequel to Halloween starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Sooo… thoughts?
The trailer for A Star is Born looked great, it also looked like a direct remake of the Barbra Streisand one – in fact, I rewatched the trailer for the Streisand and they are both pretty similar in texture and structure, with the exception being the Gaga version doesn’t dwell on the downfall of the relationship that we all know happens. Gaga looks and sounds great without all her makeup and getup and Cooper can sing well enough, though it looks like he could use a shower.
The Halloween trailer looks good, but if you are expecting the sexy version of Jamie Lee Curtis, you will need to look elsewhere – she’s all grown up, mean and tough and ready to kicks some ass! Whoop whoop! Halloween has some really good buzz around it though they had to refilm the ending to match the quality of the rest of the film. Halloween production house Blumhouse has been turning out some better quality, fan favorites lately and has announced they will no longer be doing reboots but focus on original material.
The Predator trailer didn’t fair as well – it looks like rehashed material from an uninteresting franchise to being with. The only interesting thing was the revealing of a second Predator, maybe the Predator’s ex-boyfriend?
Ryan Gosling’s First Man film with Neil looks good enough and is probably vying for some awards buzz but it does look like stuff we’ve seen in Apollo 13, Hidden Figures and more. Maybe make it a musical?
