Alright everyone, Scarlett Johansson has removed herself from playing a trans actor in Rub & Tug – happy? Instead the character will be played by Hollywood A-Lister…drum roll…oh wait, we don’t have one. So instead of this film being seen by mainstream movie goers and considered for award season, it will be another LGBT film that probably only LGBT audience members will go see. Awesome. I understand that we need trans actors at the forefront of Hollywood, but we aren’t there yet! Name me three excellent trans actors that you know of that can carry a major motion picture. Who would have seen Dallas Buyers Club and Transparent if it wasn’t for star power Jared Leto and Felicity Huffman. We need A Listers on our side, in our movies and researching our community so they can share in telling our story. This is how we build bridges. What do you think Scarlett’s take on our community is now that we have shown that we are totally exclusive? Sigh.
Frozen 2 is about to get a little steamy. The sequel has just added sexy bombshell Rachel Evan Wood and muscle man Sterling K Brown to the cast. Rachel Evan Wood just finished KILLING it onstage in For the Record: the Quentin Tarantino musical at the Wallis Annenberg Theater in Beverly Hills – her singing is unstoppable.
Academy Award Winner Frances McDormand is not joking around. She just passed on playing The Joker’s (Joaquin Phoenix) mom in the upcoming origin film. This origin film, set in the 80’s, will not be related to canon nor related to any other film involving The Joker character. Warner Bros. is still looking for a big name to play the mom. What suggestions do you have?
What’s sexier than a hot lawyer in a tight fitting, expensive suit? When that lawyer is played by Michael B Jordan and he’s defending just as sexy Jaime Foxx. Get ready for courtroom drama Just Mercy. I’m already imaging the jail cell scenes, though they will probably be different in the film.
Robocop is baaaaack! Robocop Returns will forego trying to cash in on younger audiences and instead go for an R Rating. The sequels never lived up to the original. This script is based on a scrapped script for Robocop 2. Interesting.
Johnny Depp is getting in pretty deep…in lawsuits and reports of misconduct. His latest allegation is that of personal assault on his latest film by the studio’s location scout. Just add this to his individual suits filed by his manager, two bodyguards, lawyers and ex-wife. Get it together, Johnny!
Did Keri Russell get a new agent? She is popping up all over the place. Not only has she joined the Star Wars franchise, but she is not part of Guillermo del Toro produced film, Antlers.
Indiana Jones 5 has a new release date of July 9, 2021. Yep, that far out. Better get some hair dye for Harrison.
In what sounds like a made up Hollywood film – Bill Murray, Selena Gomez, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Steven Buscemi and Chloe Sevigny team up to star in a zombie comedy, yep, a zombie comedy, titled The Dead Won’t Die. Who cast this film? Sounds like an acid trip waiting to happen. I can’t wait.
Wizard of Oz is getting yet another reincarnation. This time it’s a Warner Bros. animated feature telling the story from Toto’s perspective. He got a better view of Dorothy’s fabulous shoes.
Blade Runner is continuing! But, before you get all excited, it will carry on in comics and novels under a new media partnership between Alcon Media Group and Titan Publishing Group. Blade Runner 2049 did pretty badly at the movies, we will probably have to wait awhile to see if any resurrection is possible.
In other sci fi news, the Dune movie will start filming 2019. Sorry to say, this is not one of my favorite franchises and I’m still confused as to what its about. The costumes are lovely, the dust not so much.
Ryan Murphy’s Feud (which featured the story of Bette Davis vs Joan Crawford) will get its next season titled The Rock vs Tyrese. Just kidding, but it might as well be. The feud between Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Tyrese Gibson is still going strong – started by Gibson’s disgust at The Rock’s decision to star in a spin off of their series Fast and Furious, claiming it was selfish and would take away from the original franchise. The two have not spoken and Johnson claims he doesn’t see any reconciliation in the future. But – can you imagine that make up sex? Talk about Fast and Furious…woof.
Star Trek 4 (this is the one with Chris Pine and Zach Quinto, not the new TV series, not the Quentin Tarantino one, not the fan film) will follow in a recent trend and cast a female villain. They are looking for a big name ages 45 – 60. OH MY GAWWWWW, can you imagine if Jessica Lange joined the cast? The film is also being directed by Trek’s first ever female director and will also feature Black Panther’s kick ass actress Danai Gurira as a new character, one of the good guys, I mean good gals.
Box Office:
Ok, this weekend’s box office surprised everyone!
#1: Hotel Transylvania 3: If you would have asked me to invest $20 into this film, I would have said no. Who would have thought this sequel to the franchise would reign over the big budget action films?
#2: Ant-man and the Wasp: This film, though well received, is still not surpassing the first one. Oy
#3: Skyscraper: tumble and fall, this is the worst Rock opening second to Baywatch.
#4: Incredibles 2: set box office records for an animated film
#5: Jurassic World: go extinct already
