This weekend at the Box Office…
Dark Tower falls down 70%, plagued by bad reviews and poorly received by audiences. Stephen King just doesn’t get a break on the film adaptations of his movies. Let’s hope “It” fares better. Halle Barry’s Kidnap was down 60% and believe it or not, Girls Trip will top $100 MM this next week. Dunkirk was at #2, and shlock fest Annabelle was at #1. Horror films tend to decline rapidly after the first weekend, let’s see what happens. Nut Job premiered at #3 despite 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. Who is going to see these badly reviewed films?????
Movie News:
Justice League spends millions reshooting the cliffhanger ending after rewrite after rewrite has tried to piece this film together. It has been called “unwatchable” and the film’s first director, Zack Snyder, has been dismissed with Joss Whedon trying to finish it up. New title – Justice League: Shit Show
Chris Hemsworth loves working without a wig and claims is performance is better and more relaxed in the new Thor since his character’s haircut. Poor thing, women do it all the time and still win Oscars.
Brad and Angelina have stopped divorce proceedings. Reports from close sources claim that Brad has been sober for six months and that he’s changing the things that tore the couple apart. He’s admitted that he’s been the one out of control. But who on earth can have that many kids and still say sober? Good luck, Brad.
Nicole Kidman is embracing turning 50 years old and is not shying away from it – she says she’s not trying to hide it and is proud. With her extensive career, amazing performances and escaping Scientology unscathed, she looks pretty damn good. Go ahead, Nicole…you can finally have that piece of cake.
Nicole’s ex, Tom Cruise, was injured while filming a Mission Impossible 6 stunt. He tried (TWICE!) jumping from building to building and fell, pardon the pun, short. He was seen limping away, then collapsed. The extent of his injuries is unclear. We wouldn’t mind helping him out with some physical therapy.
For the 2nd time in the Academy history, a behind the scenes person has taken the role of the Presidency. Cinematographer John Bailey – 74 years old – was named as the new Academy President after Laura Dern backed away from the position due to her work schedule. John has extensive knowledge of the history of cinema, and will focus on film preservation and the Academy library/museum. His big challenges are to double women and minorities in film within a five year period and to increase viewership for the televised Awards ceremony (which has suffered decreasing ratings).
Leonardo DiCaprio is going to film a Leonardo DiVinci biopic by Appian Way – his production company – that also produced Shutter Island and The Aviator. Incidentally, DiCaprio was named after DiVinci by his hippie parents.
Val Kilmer took an odd photo to social media saying he’s ready for Top Gun: Maverick while wearing an Ice Man T-shirt. Gurrrrlll… looks like he was put on ice, then half melted.
Bad Boys 3 is off the release date schedule with Sony due to losing its director – Joe Carnahan. Sorry Will Smith and Matthew Lawrence! That last time we saw the Bad Boys was for its sequel in 2003. Maybe they should just let it be, reboots haven’t been doing so well.
Vin Diesel will star in a Fast and Furious live show – starting its tour in the UK next year. Whaaa??? What’s his next stop? Dancing With the Stars? Celebrity Wife Swap?
Up Ahead:
Ingrid Goes West and Good Time opened to good reviews, in limited runs, to expand in the next couple of weeks. I will be reviewing shortly!
